To college student, Katie Brandt, ‘Home for the Holidays’ sounds like hell. When her parents separated, their holiday traditions shattered like a dropped ornament. What could be worse than celebrating Christmas with her suddenly single mom and mom’s new boyfriend?

Alex Walker, an engaged 20-year-old, dreads going home for his own reasons. He has a daunting task ahead of him and wishes he could skip the holidays altogether. So when a friend of a friend needs a ride north, Alex finds that having beautiful Katie seated by his side proves to be just the distraction he needs.

A simple ride home for Christmas turns into a nightmare when light snow rages into a full-scale blizzard. Katie and Alex find themselves stranded, and a vacant cabin becomes a haven from the storm.
Under different circumstances, time alone with Alex would be the ultimate Christmas gift, but Katie knows Alex is engaged and she must hide her growing attraction.

However, Alex harbors a secret that just might change this holiday from the worst Christmas ever, to the best.
I love holiday novellas; I actually prefer them to full-length Christmas books, so I was eager to read Snowed Over. This story is a cute, quick read that’s great for a cold winter’s day or during a break throughout the Christmas holidays.

While I didn’t always love the characters or necessarily feel all that much chemistry between them, I did feel genuine emotion for and from them. I liked them together and thought they were well-suited; I felt their fear at finding a place and being snowed in; felt angry at Katie’s mother for being selfish; and felt sad when they had to part ways. Things moved quickly, but it worked for this story. I think any longer and it would have dragged, although I wish we’d gotten a bit more toward the end, even though the ending was really cute.

I enjoyed watching Katie and Alex’s feelings blossom, and I found myself rooting for them. The story wasn’t exactly new or fresh in any way - it felt like something I’d read before, and it was predictable, but not in an annoying way, more in a comforting way, if that makes sense. It’s the sort of story you can take comfort in knowing it’ll have a happy ending, which is nice, especially around the holidays.

If you enjoy sweet romances set around Christmastime, Snowed Over should definitely be added to your TBR list.
